E-Petition Against Tory H&S Plans Overtaken By General Election

The announcement on 6th April that there will be a general election 6th May has temporarilly suspended the E-Petition system. This means that Chris Ingram's petition against the Tory plans for health and safety self regulation and repealing of various elementds of health and safety legislation is currently not available for support.

In a response for support for the petition, the CWU's National Health, Safety & Environment Officer Dave Joyce, clarified the situation and responded;

"Iam happy to support your e-petition and promote it. However, during the official campaign period for the General Election the e-Petitions system is closed down to new submissions and signatures. The Government will also not issue responses to petitions during this period. This is to ensure compliance with the requirements of the Civil Service Code on party political neutrality. Any petitions due to close between the announcement of the General Election and 3 June will have their deadlines extended to 3 June. Petitions will reopen for signatures upon the formation of the new Government following the General Election."

With this in mind, the petition will be re-launched after the general election.

Chris Ingram said; " I am grateful for Dave's advice over the petition. I must admit that the timing of it was rather late considering the intention was to get the Labour Government to alert the public to the dangers of the Tory plans. However, irrespective of who forms the next Government, the aims of the petition are still valid and I will hope to re-launch the currently suspended petition after 6th May."
